Beware of CNet – do NOT download from CNet or

May 12, 2014

CNet has been around for a quite some time, and had become a fairly reputable source of reviews. They were also a major source of shareware and freeware, via their website.

I’ve installed a few freeware applications from CNet recently, only to find out that they come bundled with SEVERAL adware and spyware programs. Programmers are quite upset about the situation, and rightfully so. It’s like a bookstore getting a person sick with influenza to cough on every single one of the books that they sell. The buyers have no clue that they have been duped into bringing home a virus, along with whatever they originally wanted.

It spent several hours hunting down and getting rid of the bugs that my system got when I downloaded legal, otherwise harmless seeming software from CNet.
